Home Schooling

Romantic dinners, bouquets of flowers and calorie-rich sweet treats – these are all traditional earmarks of Valentine’s Day.  Well, 20 kids from the Lake Travis H.I.S. Homeschool Group had an opportunity to enjoy a sweet treat of their own with a field trip to Krispy Kreme Donuts.  What fun – and yummy too!

The fun continues with a Valentine Party which, of course, includes the exchange of valentines.  Have you ever read the messages printed on the valentines our kids exchange?  Some are a bit corny, some are cute, some are funny; but they all try to communicate a message of love.  As we share our expressions of love to those we hold dear, let us reflect on the ultimate love letter from the Author of love itself.

The Lake Travis H.I.S. Homeschool Group is now halfway through its second of three terms for the 2011-2012 school year, and we have recently welcomed three new families to the group.  If you or someone you know is looking for a homeschool group, we invite you to come and check us out.  Classes for our next term are currently being formulated; Term 3 classes will begin on March 23.

The Lake Travis H.I.S. Homeschool Group was created with a desire to encourage and empower home school parents while providing a nurturing social and educational life-giving group for children and parents alike.  It is our desire that all we say and do be to the glory and honor of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
So let us all look forward to the beginning of this new year knowing that growth in our spiritual lives is a continual process. Be encouraged to seek Him with a renewed passion and enthusiasm. So then I ask, are you ready for or even excited at the prospect of beginning a new year?
Well the H.I.S. Homeschool Group is very excited about the beginning of Term 2. We will resume classes on Friday, January 13, with a great lineup of classes—all thanks to our incredible members (we are truly blessed.) Our 1st-3rd graders will continue ‘Galloping the Globe’ using maps and fun projects to learn about God’s amazing world. Several other classes will also continue in Term 2. These include Sign Language, Drama, Anatomy and LiteraryAnalysis.
In addition to these continuations we have many fun new classes as well. The ‘Lego Smart’ class will offer much more than stacking little plastic bricks together. In this class students will gain key science, technology, engineering and math concepts while learning to work in teams, solve problems and create solutions. (Much more than what I remember from playing with my Legos as a kid!) Many of our kids, and moms, were very excited to see the return of the Centershot class which combines the skill of archery with a Bible study. Thank you, Sean Reece! ‘Creation or Evolution? - A Battle of Beliefs!’is a class designed to address this very common stumbling block. The class will provide students with sound Biblical and scientific teaching on the topic. All of this and field trips too! Yes, I would say we are all very excited for Term 2 to begin.
There is still room in most of the classes, and we have new families joining on a regular basis. If you or someone you know is looking for a homeschool group, we invite you to come and check us out. For additional information, please contact Trisha Reece at 512-284-8071 or email at treece4@austin.rr.com. You can also visit us on the web at www.LakeTravisHIS.com.
